We’ve had a really fun day today raising money for Children in Need – so many colourful outfits and Pudsey bears and a real spirit of enjoyment from the children while they raise money for those less fortunate. It is not too late to donate online on Arbor if you still wish to – we will give you the final total next week.
I had a wonderful morning yesterday when I was lucky enough to be chosen to accompany our new Foundation children on their first outing of the year. We walked down to Woolston Library where we spent the whole morning exploring books, making bookmarks and listening to stories. I can’t believe how well these children have settled into “big school” and how well they could concentrate and listen for such a long time – well done to all of you!
Mrs Mullin
Mrs Mullin will be away from work for a few weeks – please keep her in your thoughts and prayers as she undergoes a medical procedure. While she’s away, please contact Mrs Collins in the office for any of the things that Mrs Mullin normally helps with and she will do her best to help.
Staffing
We welcome Mr Peter Grennan who is covering Mrs Taylor’s maternity leave in 2RW.
Mrs Laura O’Toole has taken on 2 other roles! In addition to her midday supervisor work, she has also been appointed as a teaching assistant to deliver a language intervention with YF children and will also be supporting our sports and music departments with admin and logistics. We are delighted to have her on board!
Football Success!
We are having a fabulous few months of sports at the moment! Last week, we learnt that the boys football team had won the Southampton East League title for the second time and this week we will find out if the girls can also win as they did last term.
Sports Gold Award
And if that were not enough, the school has been awarded the School Games Gold Award for 2021-22 which is a fantastic achievement and a real testament to the hard work of Mr Porter, Ms Alexander and Miss Tonks and really shows how much the children and staff have engaged with and done well in a variety of sports over the year.
Advent Prayer for Parents and Children
Mrs Hales will be leading a short prayer session every Friday in Advent in the Shamrock Room at 8.30am starting on Friday 2nd December. You are warmly invited to bring your children and other family and join us as we prepare to welcome Jesus at Christmas.
Advent Carol Service
Some of our KS2 children will be leading an Advent Carol Service in the church on Thursday 1st December at 6pm. Everyone is warmly invited (refreshments afterwards!) and if you child would like to help with the service, it’s not too late to sign up on Arbor.
Come and Join us for Breakfast!
Many of the children come to our free “Bagel Club” before school every day where they enjoy a wide selection of bagels, toppings and cereal. On Friday 2nd December, we’re inviting parents to come and join your children for breakfast and have a lovely start to the day. Please put the date in your diary – Mrs Ford (our Bagel Club leader) is looking forward to welcoming you.
Online Safety from Mrs Claridge
For this week’s Online Safety newsletter we’re looking at the social platform Amigo. There has been a rise in children using this platform across the country and although it is stated that it aimed at over 18’s, there is no age verification to enforce this. It is strongly recommended that no children use this site due to the inappropriate nature of the messages that can be received from strangers as shown in the attached poster. Please read and share with anyone you think needs to know. As always, if you have anything you’d like me to add to these Online Safety emails, then please do get in contact.
School Library
Our new Year 5 librarians have all finished their training and are doing a great job of keeping the library tidy and ordered. They have learned about the Dewey system, our AR level system and how to scan books in and out! A big thank you to Mr and Mrs Deadman and Mrs O’Neill for all their time and effort in maintaining the library and training the children.
Christmas Choir
Our fabulous Christmas Choir will be carol-singing at Sainsbury’s Hedge End on Friday 2nd December and at West Quay (outside John Lewis) on Friday 9th December both in the afternoon, so do come along and listen if you are free!
£1 Bus Travel
Both red and blue bus companies are offering £1 travel after 6pm for everyone over the festive season. Click here for more information.
This Sunday we celebrate the great feast of Christ the King, the final Sunday of the Church’s year. It is a reminder to us that Jesus, the greatest king of all, came to us as a humble baby and showed us that to be a truly great person, we have to be humble and show love to each other, even our enemies: how many of us can truly say we do that?
Have a lovely weekend and don't forget it's World Cup Day on Monday!
