Welcome to the ninth edition of this newsletter. We are in the home stretch of your child’s first year at St Patrick’s. Can you believe that your child has been in school for nearly a year? Despite the unfortunate Spring term lockdown, the children are making good progress. We have confirmed our end of year assessments for your child in each of the 17 aspects of learning within the EYFS curriculum. In the next couple of weeks, you will receive your child’s end of year report, which will provide information about their progress and successes within the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Summer Performance
By now you should all now have received a note informing you of your child’s part in our summer production. The children have been learning all the songs and have moved on to the rehearsal of acting parts and stage directions! If your child has a speaking part, you should already have received the script.
Thank you to those of you who have brought in your child’s costume. There are still a few costumes to be received, so please get these into us ASAP.
The performance will be recorded on the afternoon of Thursday 8th July.
School Trip
We are delighted to confirm that we will be taking the Year F children on their first school trip to Weston Shore. This will be over a two-day period on Friday 16th July and Tuesday 20th July. The children will be going in groups of 15 with adults from our Year F team and Mrs Lindfield (our school Business Manager), who will be driving us in the school minibus! Unfortunately, we are unable to ask for volunteer helpers on this occasion.
For your child to join us on this trip, we need specific permission from you to allow them to travel on our school minibus. The email with this permission form will be sent to you in the next few days. Please return this form or your child will sadly not be able to join us on their first school trip.
The trip is free, and lunch will be at school as usual. Children will be in school at normal time and can be picked up as usual. The children will be able to wear their own clothes on these two days - Friday 16th July and Tuesday 20th July. They do not need to wear school uniform. We suggest that they wear shorts/summer dress and T-shirt, hat. Sensible trainers/shoes only, please.
On these days we will also be providing an inside Pirate Party and a ‘splashdown’ water session in the outside area. Taking part in the water play is on a voluntary basis, although some of the Year F adults have volunteered to be soaked by the children! Children will be able to choose for themselves if they wish to take part. Children joining in will need a towel and a spare change of clothes in a named bag because the children and adults will get wet! Only children with a change of clothes will be able to take part in this activity.
Sports Day
The Foundation sports day will take place on Wednesday 14th July. It is sad that you will be unable to join us for this event. However, we are looking forward to the children having an opportunity to compete and have fun together. In our PE lessons the children have been learning the skills required to compete in sports day activities, including bean bag balancing, stamina running, hopping races, egg and spoon race and much more!
Prayer
As the children prepare for the transition into Year 1, we have been increasingly talking about this with them. Some children are excited, some are nervous, and some have a mixture of feelings. Here is a prayer for you and your child to say together: Dear God,
As I prepare to move onto the next step in my life at school, please help me. I do not fully know what to expect. Thank you for all the fun times I have had in Year F. Please help me to be brave as I get ready to move into Year 1.
Amen
Best wishes!
The Foundation Team
