Prayer Life of the School
As a Catholic school, we encourage our whole community to deepen their relationship with God through prayer and being open to God's presence in their lives.
Children take part in daily acts of worship and learn to lead these as they move through the school. They also participate in whole-school liturgies, Masses and other celebrations. We teach children some of the traditional prayers of the Church in a progressive way as outlined below:
Staff pray regularly together and parents are invited to join the school for prayer on a number of occasions. We have a particularly good take-up for this during the month of October, when we say the rosary, and during Advent and Lent.
Fr Ross, our Parish Priest, also attends regularly to lead staff, children and parents in prayer and liturgy.
The children help lead the Parish Sunday Mass on one Sunday each month, when they do the reading, singing, welcoming and collecting. The Bishop was very impressed with their ministry when he last visited and wrote it up for the Diocese Newsletter:
There was then an amazing Children’s Mass at 11 am in Woolstan, the church full of parents, teachers and children from the adjacent St. Patrick’s School. The school Mass takes place monthly and it was marvellous to see the head teacher, Mr. Michael Lobo, an accomplished musician, leading the school choir in singing beautifully the Advent hymn, Creator alme siderum and the chants of Mass XVIII.
